HRH Princess Diana Lenska Awards Medals of Honor to Veterans of Monte Cassino

On Friday, April 30, 2010 a ceremony to honor Polish veterans of Monte Cassino took place at City Hall in Utica, NY.  Mayor David Roefaro was introduced by Councilman Frank X. Vescera.  Various State and City officials were present at the ceremony including representatives of Senator Joe Griffo and Congressman Accuri.

The  veterans honored were Stanislaw Sawicki of Rome, NY (deceased), Stan Sawicki, Jr. was pinned, Joseph Biega of Schenectady, NY; Henry Jaworski of Utica, NY; and Janusz Nieduzak of Buffalo, NY.  These Polish soldiers all fought and served with General Wladyslaw Anders at the Battle of Monte Cassino.  General Anders died May 12, 1970 in London and is buried at the Polish Cemetery at Monte Cassino, Italy.
